Baptisms, Weddings & Funerals

Christenings, Baptisms
& Dedications

Baptisms are part of the Christening Service whilst a Dedications are a service of thanksgiving without baptism.

Our warmest congratulations to you if you have recently experienced the joy and wonder of the arrival of a new child. Like many people at this wonderful stage of life, you may be looking for a way to thank God for giving you such an amazing gift.

Here at St Mark’s, we would count it a privilege to offer you the opportunity to do just that, with our special service for baptism or dedication. Please email the church office who will then be in touch with all the information for Baptism preparation, explaining more about what is involved, as well as arranging suitable dates for the service.

Weddings

Congratulations if you have recently become engaged.  The next step is to contact one of our clergy to talk through the date you have in mind and to start to plan your ceremony.  We strongly advise against making any firm bookings with reception venues until you have spoken to someone from the church.

Reading of Banns

Banns are an announcement in church of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place.  Banns need to be read in the parish where each of you live as well as in the parish church in which you are to be married, if that is somewhere else.  The Banns of Marriage must be read on three consecutive Sundays, at least three months prior to the date of your wedding.

Funerals

Please get contact the church office if you need to speak to someone about arranging a funeral and we will do all we can to help you in what we know is one of life’s most difficult times.

Whilst the Church of England website provides information on planning a funeral and the funeral service the team at St Mark’s we will offer personal support as you plan a service that reflects your loved one. Funerals can be very special times as you come together to express grief, give thanks and commend the person into God’s keeping.

Our church is a flexible space and works well for both intimate and larger services. We are able to project photos onto a retractable screen should you wish to.
